Required · Microsoft Clarity

Clarity, step by step.

You need two things: a tracker installed on your app, and an export token that lets Shipped read its dashboard counts. Do these in the same Clarity project.

Open Microsoft Clarity ↗
  1. Step 1 of 6

Create or open your app’s Clarity project

Open clarity.microsoft.com and sign in. Create a project for your submitted app’s website, or open the existing project. Only one teammate needs to do this.

  2. Step 2 of 6

Install the tracking script on your app

In that project, open Settings → Setup. Copy the tracking code and install it in your website’s <head> using your builder’s custom-code setting or your app’s root layout. Publish/deploy the change. The public project ID in this script is not the token Shipped needs.

  3. Step 3 of 6

Check that Clarity receives a visit

Open your published app, use its main feature, then check the same Clarity project’s dashboard. Allow time for data to appear. Browser blockers, an unpublished script or a different domain can stop tracking. Connecting Shipped does not install the script.

  4. Step 4 of 6

    Generate the Data Export token

In the same project, open Settings → Data Export → Generate new API token. Name it shipped-course (no spaces) and copy the entire generated token. Only project admins can manage export tokens.

  5. Step 5 of 6

    Paste the token in Shipped

Open My submission → your app → Microsoft Clarity → Set up Clarity. Paste the export token in the private credential field, confirm read access and click Connect source. Do not paste the project ID, tracking code, project URL or a screenshot.

  6. Step 6 of 6

Check the connection and submit tracking

You return to your submission checklist. Look for Microsoft Clarity → Connected and a last successful sync time. If the first sync is pending or failed, follow the displayed message. Finish Search Console and payment setup, then press Submit tracking setup to save a timestamped receipt.

Stuck? Start here.

I can’t find Data Export
Check that you opened a project, then Settings inside that project. If you are not a project admin, ask the teammate who created it to generate the token. Do not send us your Microsoft password.
Invalid token / unauthorized (401 or 403)
Generate a fresh export token as an admin and copy it completely. Use the private credential field, not submission notes. If a saved connection needs a replacement token, disconnect it first.
Daily export limit (429)
Clarity permits 10 export requests per project per day. Stop retrying and wait for the provider’s quota to reset. Shipped normally refreshes every six hours.
Connected, but no sessions
First check the Clarity dashboard itself. Confirm the correct website and deployed tracking script, then test without a blocker. Access verification and script installation are separate checks.
Why isn’t there a monthly total yet?
The export gives the latest 24 hours, with at most three days of history. Shipped saves daily snapshots after connection. Weekly and monthly charts show those readings with gaps for missing days. Overlapping 24-hour snapshots are never added into a monthly total.

Only dashboard aggregates are imported. Individual recordings are not imported. Microsoft’s export documentation ↗
